Course Outline

This three-hour short course allows you to gain skills and knowledge required to monitor bowel health, recognise signs and symptoms of bowel problems, and support people to achieve the conditions for optimal bowel health, implement their bowel care plan and use continence aids.

A practical demonstration activity will be provided.

    • Identify the major parts and functions of the lower digestive system

    • Define the characteristics of a healthy functioning bowel

    • Outline strategies to support a healthy bowel

    • Identify indications of problems in bowel function

    • Identify the importance of regular bowel care

    • Food and fluid intake

    • Strategies and therapies to support bowel health

    • Occupational therapy equipment.

    • All course material provided

    • At the successful completion of the workshop, participants are given a certificate of completion

    • All courses are delivered by qualified trainers and assessors with relevant sector experience

    • All courses require an in-class assessment.
